Mammoth Lakes is a California mountain town east of Yosemite National Park, part of the John Muir Wilderness and Sierra Nevada range. It's one of my all-time favorite places, and where my husband and I (almost) got married in 2020 -- had to bail due to wildfires. The subject of the painting is Heart Lake, which is one of many alpine lakes on my favorite hiking trail in the area, Little Lakes Valley to Gem Lakes.
