Commissions

When you choose to commission me for a painting, I work with you to create a piece that fits your specific needs.

Process

  1. We start with a conversation about what you have in mind — your vision for the painting, the size, color palette, and any other key details. If you have a specific reference photo(s) you want me to work from, please share. Otherwise, I can gather images and sketch ideas to share with you.

  2. I'll send over an initial sketch to make sure the bones of the painting look good to you before proceeding.

  3. Midpoint check in: Once the painting is partially completed, I’ll send photos of my progress and incorporate any feedback you may have. This is the best stage for any adjustments. Once I move into the final layers, the oil becomes harder to alter.

  4. Final check in and approval: After the painting is complete, allow ~4-6 weeks for dry time and varnish to protect and preserve it for life. Then, I pack and ship it to you (or hand deliver if you live in the Colorado Foothills).

  • Commissions tend to cost more than similarly-sized original work because I am giving up some creative control to paint a piece that fits your needs.

In general, the cost is dependent on the size and complexity of the request. To help you estimate costs:

    • Petite commissions (i.e. 4×6”, 5×7”, etc.) start at $125.

    • Small commissions (i.e. 8×10”, 11×14”, etc.) start at $375.

    • Medium commissions (i.e. 16×20”, 18×24” etc.) start at $1,380.

    • Large commissions (i.e. 24×36”, 30×40”, etc.) start at $3,725.

I will send you a quote and contract upon receiving your commission request.

If I accept your request, and you agree to the terms of the contract, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin the commission, as this reserves time on my schedule.

  • This varies based on the size and complexity of the request. Along with a custom quote, I will send you a proposed timeline in the commission contract. I will follow the proposed timeline for progress check ins and the final deadline.

All timelines include ~4-6 weeks of drying time and varnish so your custom painting is protected and preserved for life.

Please note that my ability to book new commissions is dependent on my commission calendar and my personal projects I’m working on simultaneously.

  • Unfortunately, I can’t accept all commission requests.

    This depends on:

    • My availability / how booked my calendar is with other work.

    • If your request is a good match for my painting style and subject matter (primarily landscapes — mountains, oceans, valleys, etc.).

    • If the costs and timeline for the commission work for you.

  • I have the right to share photos of artwork I create on my website and social media platforms.

However, if you prefer not to be mentioned by name or to have your reference photo(s) shared, I am happy to keep these details private. Just let me know what your preferences are.

  • Yes! If you would like your piece framed, please mention this in your commission request and I will factor it into the quote and timeline.

  • Please submit your commission request and I will respond to any additional questions via email.
